General Info

Your First Time Climbing?

Once youve got over the fact that youre in this incredible climbing environment and all your faculties are in place, you have to be able to do the following:

In order to climb at Sunderland Wall, it is necessary for a climber to be able to perform three basic safety procedures:

  1. To put on a harness correctly.
  2. To tie on to the rope having threaded it correctly through the harness using a 'figure of eight' or 'bowline' knot.
  3. Belay using a recommended belay-device and harness correctly.

Any climber 18 years and over can sign in and commence climbing after declaring themselves competent to perform the above procedures, and accepting the conditions of Sunderland Wall.

Young climbers who can adhere to the above procedures can climb provided they have parental consent.

Age and Access

Gecko Bouldering Club

Young climbers aged 37 years old can come and enjoy bouldering in the Gecko Club. Parents or guardians should remain to supervise the children.

Rock Monkey Club

Kids must be 7 and over to access the Rock Monkeys and parents must stay with their kids until they are members.

Under 12

Parents can bring kids under 12 down to the Bouldering wall and supervise them, we'll show you what to do.

Young climbers aged 711 must be supervised on the Top roped and Lead Walls, it is at parents and/or Sunderland Walls discretion whether supervision is required for other age groups.

If your kids are over 11 just bring them down and we'll show them what to do on the Bouldering wall.

All kids must be signed in by a parent or guardian.

Guests

Adult members of Sunderland Wall can bring up to 2 guests, where they will provide full supervision and be responsible for their guests safety and behaviour at all times. The guests will pay the standard admission fee until such time as the individuals concerned are competent and therefore able to agree to the conditions of Sunderland Wall. They then can use the wall unsupervised subject to the conditions and if they so wish become members and receive a reduced rate admission.

Guests aged 7 years and over can be brought into the wall provided they have a signed parental consent form.
